Absences
Every day counts because children achieve better when they attend school all day, every day. Additionally, attending school every day helps children to build social and emotional skills such as communication, teamwork and resilience.
Parents, caregivers and communities have a key role in ensuring all students attend school every day. Under the law, you must make sure your child is enrolled and attends school on all school days unless there is a reasonable excuse. Schools must monitor attendance of students and follow up with parents and caregivers any unexplained absences.
Student absences should be reported by email, admin@thecavess.eq.edu.au or phone 49126111 or our Absence line on 0436923506 and leave the students name, date absent and the reason.
Bicycles, Scooters and Skateboards
Children riding bicycles, scooters or skateboards to school are required to park them in the racks provided at the library.
To prevent theft it is advisable for cyclists to lock their bicycles or scooters in the racks.
Children are permitted in the bike rack area only when dropping off or picking up their bike or scooter.
Children must wear an approved helmet when riding their bicycle to and from school.
Bullying
We are committed to creating learning environments where every student and member of our school community feels safe, supported, respected, and valued—free from bullying, violence, harassment and discrimination.
Bully Proof Australia
At The Caves State School, we are dedicated to fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for every student. As proud supporters of Bully-Proof Australia, we actively promote kindness, respect, and positive relationships. Our goal is to ensure that all students feel safe, supported, and empowered to learn free from bullying, harassment, or discrimination.
Encouraging our students to be upstanders, not bystanders—speaking up, seeking help, and supporting their peers to create a culture where bullying has no place.
Together with our staff, parents, and community, we are committed to standing against bullying in all its forms and building a school where every child can thrive.
Illness
If your child shows signs of illness before leaving for school they are to be kept at home.
Students that fall sick at school will be cared for in the Health Room. School staff will contact parents if the situation warrants or there is no improvement.
The Time Out Chart (PDF, 157 KB) provides parents and carers with information regarding infection conditions that may require exclusion from school and additional public health recommendations.
Medication
Persons on staff (authorised by the Principal) may be responsible for administering medication. Medication will be administered by staff, provided it is strictly in accordance with instructions from the student's doctor, and is requested by the parents on the appropriate medication form which is available from the school office. We are unable to administer any form of medication, including over the counter medications, unless it is in the original container with the dosage stated by a medical practitioner.
Medication is kept in a safe place in the administration building. Medication and written dosage instructions must be handed in to the office. A record will be kept of all occasions when medication is administered by the school.
Asthma medication and therapy requires a medication form and Asthma Action Plan.
Mobile Phones
The use of mobile phones, smart watches and other hand held devices is disruptive to the learning environment of all students. Under certain circumstances a mobile phone may be brought to school after correspondence stating purpose is presented to the principal. If approved the mobile phone is to be kept in the administration building during the school day.
Students are given access to the school telephone to make important calls.
