We see the curriculum as the combined experiences students encounter both in the classroom and across the school. Working in partnership with parents and families, our goal is to ensure that every student is learning and succeeding—every day, in every classroom.

Assessment and Reporting
Assessment is an important part of systematic curriculum delivery. At The Caves we plan, design and implement assessment to monitor and gather evidence of student learning and achievement against the relevant achievement standards. Teachers ensure that there is an assessment folio for each student for each learning area/subject provided. They include the summative assessment task(s); graded and annotated marking guide(s) and student response(s) for each unit.
Positive and productive communication between our school and our parents is recognised as paramount to the progress and improvement of our student's learning.
We recommend ongoing contact between parents and the class teacher to maintain awareness of the student's needs.

Parent-Teacher interviews offered Term 1, and Term 3
NAPLAN reports issued annually for Year 3 and 5 students (delivered by ACARA to the school)
Parents are encouraged to arrange meetings with their child's teacher at any time throughout the year and may request results or reports to support specific student needs. To ensure meaningful conversations, we ask that lengthy discussions are avoided before school or during class time. Booking an appointment allows the teacher to set aside dedicated time and have the necessary information ready to address your questions.
Invitations will be extended to parents at various times to attend special occasions to see student's present work or displays of their activities, either on an individual class or whole of school basis.
Australian Curriculum
The Australian Curriculum sets out the essential knowledge, understanding and skills students need to learn, and the quality of learning that is expected of the students as they progress through the first 11 years of schooling.
The Australian Curriculum is designed to prepare young people for the future world in which they will learn, and prepares them to respond to the challenges that will continue to shape their world. It sets out the priorities and aspirations we hold for all our young people. The curriculum represents what the Australian community values as the knowledge, understanding and skills that young people should attain.
The Australian Curriculum is 3-dimensional; it includes learning areas, general capabilities, and cross-curriculum priorities. Together, the 3 dimensions set out essential knowledge, understanding and skills all young Australians need so they will be able to learn, contribute and shape their world now and in the future.
Australian Curriculum Version 9
At The Caves State School, we continue to familiarise and implement the Prep to Year 6 Australian Curriculum Version 9 (AC V9). This includes eight learning areas, general capabilities and cross-curriculum priorities. Implementation is to be completed by the end of 2028, and we are guided by Implementation advice External link to add available on the Curriculum Gateway.
